BENIN CITY-Police in Benin City have apprehended four suspected car snatchers, one criminal receiver and recovered five vehicles earlier hijacked from their owners in the state capital.

The Public Relations Officer, Edo State Police Command DSP Osifo Abiodun stated that the arrest and recovering were made at different locations in Benin City.

He disclosed that the a covert investigation launched by operatives into the reported case of a NISSAN car that was snatched from its owner at Wire Road on Thursday, February 18, 2016 led to the arrest of one Tony Ogieva as the receiver.

DSP Osifo disclosed that the NISSAN car was later recovered at a spot where it was being disassembled.

Also arrested is a spray painter who changes the colour of stolen vehicles before they are sold to unsuspecting buyers.

DSP Osifo gave the other suspects names as Christopher Obonugo, Samson Elaiho, Okechukwu and Udo Nwama.

The recovered vehicles included; Ash colour Toyota Camry marked BEN443-DP, black Focus Ford wagon car, red Lexus jeep and blue Toyota Matrix car.

The police spokesman however warned criminals to desist from their evil ways, steer clear of Edo State as no criminal would be speared under the watch of CP Chris Ezike.

It would be recalled that two members of inter-states car snatching syndicate led by a fake soldier were also apprehended by operatives of Edo police command, recently.

Two TOYOTA cars, five locally made master keys, ID card bearing Ex Cpl James Joseph Akor numbered L/254/NT, military camouflage shirt, one binocular, three GSM phones, and documents were among items recovered from the suspects.
