Benin – Speaker Edo House of Assembly, Victor Edoror , on Monday directed the Commissioner for Finance, Mr John Inegbedion to furnish the house with expenditures on the construction of the Edo State University, Iyamoh.
The house had on April 20, summoned the Commissioners for Finance; Education; Environment; Public Utility, and Housing and Urban Development to appear before to explain financial involvement of their ministries.
When he appeared before the house, Inegbedion told the house that he had been on a 10-day vacation.
“My speaker, I want to inform the house that I have been away on a10-day vacation. I just resumed official duty on Monday, and do not have access to my office to get the information required.
“I want to request that the house give us time to liaise with the Accountant General of the state so that we give you the accurate figure.
The Commissioner for Education, Mr Gideon Obakhian, however, informed the house that the institution has taken -off with about 500 students.
“My speaker, we are happy to inform you that the school has taken- off with all infrastructure in place. I cannot give the financial implication of the work done.
“The commissioner for finance is in a better position to furnish the house with all the financial details, ” Obakhian said.
According to the commissioner, three faculties have been accredited-the faculty of science, arts and pharmacy.
The speaker directed the commissioner for finance to furnish his office with the actual amount spent so far on the construction of the school, latest Monday, May 2, 2016. (NAN)
