BENIN CITY-A 42 year-old driver alleged to have robbed his female passenger has admitted to have resorted to armed robbery in order to raise money to pay his child’s hospital bills in Benin City.

The suspect, Clement Ogunsoba from Eyean said he used a gun-shaped iron to dispossessed his passenger of her N18, 500.00 cash and a phone.

He said his victim was one of the two market women who boarded his car at Oluku near Benin about 6am to Odighi village in Ovia North-East local government area of Edo State.

On their way, Clement admitted to have pulled over at Ugbogiobo village, asked one of the women said to be his costumer to leave his car while he carried out the criminal act, last Monday.

He further confessed to have used N16, 500.00 to offset the hospital bills while N2, 000.00 was spent on the car on behalf of its owner.

Clement Ogunsoba claimed he was unable to discharge his 14 years old child who suffered spleen problem after he was treated at a government-own hospital in the state capital.

Items paraded with him as exhibits were a gun-shaped iron, the woman’s bag where the money was allegedly kept and a phone handset.

The Public Relations Officer for Edo State Police Command DSP Osifo Abiodun advised passengers to be weary of the drivers they patronise.

He said that the police would investigation further and charge the suspect to court for armed robbery.
