Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State says his administration will continue to work for the benefit of the people emphasizing that the purpose of government is to work for the people.
Speaking during an inspection visit to the on-going reconstruction site of the Ekenwan Road on Tuesday in Benin City, Governor Oshiomhole said, “I want to thank you and the Enogie that spoke. I know it has been a big issue because we have a whole military barracks on this road, and if there was a distress call, it was going to be very difficult to get the military to intervene. And for our people who are living here, spending a thousand or two thousand on transport to town, that takes almost one month salary of an average person. So, I couldn’t do much about it when the rains were heavy, but I did say that when the rains are over, we will do our best to fix the road.”
He said, “I am happy with the progress that has been made. It’s not yet completely done. I have told them to make sure they put stone base, and in those areas where you have boulders, we will use concrete because what I found is that once water gets into asphalt, within a few months, it will tend to wash off. So, we use asphalt where it is suitable and use hard well-mixed 30 grade concrete on the road so that it can withstand water and all kinds of season.
“But let me thank you also for your patience, for the confidence and for the trust. I assure you that we will continue to work for our people. I have been very favoured by Edo people and I will give Edo people my all. Thank you for everything, and continue to remember us in your prayers because, you know, as we are doing our best to make things happen, at this time, many governments across the country cannot even pay salaries, not to talk of doing any contracts. But we are paying salaries as and when due, but I also believe that paying salaries is not enough. That one affects only those who are working for government.”
According to him, “The real purpose of government is to work for the people, to build roads so that people can do their businesses. Individuals can build their homes but government creates the environment to enable that to happen. Thank you for your support, and I assure you that we will continue to do our best for the good people of our great State.”
In a note of appreciation to Governor Oshiomhole for the laudable project, the Enogie of Evbuovbuike, His Royal Highness Eghosa Ewansiha who was at the project site said, “It is like a miraculous thing and we really thank you and your government. You have been helping us. There was a time we were suffering at the other side and you put it through for us. God will bless you for answering us because I was thinking how I will be going to my palace. There was no road here; it was completely blocked. So, I really thank God. I wish God to grant you long life and prosperity, and give you a position to take care of Nigeria in general, not even Edo State.  God will bless you. It shall be well with you.”
The residents of the community who heaved a sigh of relief with the on-going intervention were full of excitement and sang praises of Governor Adams Oshiomhole for the commencement of reconstruction of the Ekenwan road which had been riddled with large gullies and potholes which had rendered the road impassable.
