The Inspector-General of Police Mr Solomon Arase has commissioned an ultra-modern police barracks sited at Ayoha, near Iyamoh in Etsako West local government area of Edo State, last Friday.

Four brand new operational vehicles were also provided for the smooth take off of the base said to have a strength of 100 men with one Superintendent of Police Officer (SP) Ehindero Lawrence as the Commanding Officer.

The barracks which is the official base of men and officers of Squadron 60, Mobile Police Force was built by the Edo State government and donated to the Nigeria Police Force.

Speaking before the commissioning, the state governor Comrade Adams Oshiomhole stated that the barracks would address the security challenges being experienced in that area.

He maintained that cases of armed robbery and kidnapping have been recorded in that axis of Edo State.

“Mr IG, I am grateful for your encouragement and all that you have done behind the scene to formally accept and take over this facility.

“Let me say to our people that the idea of locating this facility here rose from series of incidence in recent years, many of our people have been kidnapped between here and Okenne.

“We have lot of violent activities between here and Agbede, Igarra and other locations around this axis. Comrade Oshiomhole noted.

He however expressed hope that the facility would provide the needed comfort for the officers to deliver adequately.

“My hope is that the officers would find the accommodation sufficiently comfortable to be able to give their best to the Nigeria nation.

“So IG, this facility is Edo State government modest contribution to helping to make your job less tasking, and I ask you to accept it in good faith”. The governor stated.

Shortly after the commissioning, the Inspector-General of Police revealed that the with the provision of the facility the Police Force would be able to use the men to monitor the area through to Lokoja, in Kogi State.

“So we will be able to now use the men posted to this facility to lock down the highway between here and Lokoja which has become very serious security threat to the nation”. The IG noted.

He however expressed gratitude to the state governor for the gesture.
