AGBOR: There was pandemonium in Agbor Obi Quarters in Ika North East Local Government Area of Delta recently when gunmen suspected to be cultists unleashed terror in the area in broad daylight , killing a middle aged man in the process.
The younger brother of the deceased, Saturday Ehiedu believed to be the prime target of the attack, was said to have narrowly escaped death when the gunmen stormed his family home in Agbor Obi Quarters in a commando- like style on April 5, 2016.
The attackers were said to have shot sporadically into the air on their arrival and immediately demanded to see Saturday Ehiedu who left home some moments earlier.
Saturdays aged mother who is weak and suffering from stroke was said to have told the attackers that his son was not at home and pleaded with them to spare her life and that of her children.
They later shot Saturday’s elder brother who could not escape when the gunmen stormed their home on that fateful day. He was later pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.
The gunmen before leaving were said to have vandalised the apartment, and warned that they would come back again for Saturday Ehiedu.
It was gathered that Saturday Ehiedu had been under intense pressure from one of his friends to join a notorious cult group in the area.
He is said to have been abducted, beaten and given the option to subscribe the cult’s oath of allegiance or risked being killed.
Our correspondent who visited the community after the attack, reports that the Ehiedu family home had been completely deserted while the whereabouts of Saturday Ehiedu and other family members remain unknown.
A resident in the area who spoke to our reporter in confidence, said that they are all living in fear as gunmen continue to lay siege on the community.
He told our reporter that not less four persons have been killed in cult-related violence in the past six months,, adding”we are all living daily in fears because of the cultists”.
Clashes between rival cult groups and cult-related killings have continued unabated across the country, and the police have not been able to contain the killings over the years.
