UROMI-A devastating inferno on Friday engulfed the secretariat of Esan North East Local Government Council, Uromi, Edo State, destroying documents and office equipments worth millions of naira.
The inferno which reportedly started at about 2:00pm razed Confidential Registry, Legal Department, vice chairman’s office, chairperson’s office; while chairman’s office and main account were spared.
Office equipments such as computers, furnitures, fans, television sets, refregirators, air conditioners, carbinets and others were destroyed by the fire.
The council chairman, Hon. Sam Oboh described the incident as unfortunate and disclosed that investigation would be opened to ascertain the level of damage and cause of the inferno.
The council boss has being having a running battle with the council legislators over issues of car loans, which he could not settle due to paucity of funds.
It was gathered that councillors went to the extent of passing a vote of no confidence on the chairman.
However, Hon. Oboh refused to link the councillors to the inferno, saying only investigations would determine the cause of fire.
