Calabar – Asu Okang, the Cross River Commissioner for Sports, on Monday said the U.J. Esuene Stadium in Calabar was ready for this weekend’s Flying Eagles versus Burundi match.

Okang told newsmen in Calabar that most of the stadium’s facilities had been rehabilitated to ensure both teams and their supporters had a satisfying time.

He said this was because the Cross River State Government places high premium on sports events and could not afford to fail in its responsibilities.

“The pitch is set for the game, and we are working tirelessly to ensure adequate security during the match.

“Already, the state government has set up a committee headed by Effiom Efiwat, the Special Adviser to Gov. Ayade on Sports, in this regard.

“All relevant security agencies have been mobilised to ensure a successful match,’’ the commissioner said.

The second round second leg match in the 2017 African Under-20 Championship Qualifiers is billed to hold on Saturday in Calabar.

The Flying Eagles are already in Calabar preparing for the game.
