BENIN CITY – Edo State Governor Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has identified the significant role the media play in the governance of any state or country.
This was when he received the Publisher of the age-long tabloid The Daily Times Newspaper, Mr. Fidelis Anosike and his entourage including the current Miss Nigeria beauty queen at the government house, Benin City recently.
The Governor, who noted the power of the media, emphasized that without information dissemination by the media, government would be in trouble as there would be no information flow from the government to the people and from the feed-back from them.
Commending Mr Anosike for his commitment and courage to opt for newspaper publishing, which he noted was not easy considering the rising cost of production and the reduction in advert placement in the print media on like in the past, he also lauded the Daily Times Publisher, saying “ You have kept the Daily Times flying,”
He thanked the Publisher for giving coverage on the international Okpekpe long distance race competition and for the participation of the Miss Nigeria beauty queen to spice the international athletics.
The Governor explained that the introduction of the beauty pageant in the race competition should be used to champion the campaign for a clean environment stressing, “As you celebrate beauty, we should also celebrate a clean environment devoid of pollution.”
On the quest of the Publisher to make Benin City the hob of Daily Times, Governor Oshiomhole assured him of government assistance.
Earlier, the Daily Times Publisher, Mr. Fidelis Anosike commended Governor Oshiomhole on his passion and commitment with which he had served the people of Edo State to justify his quest to venture into politics and that he turned Benin City to a destination of love, peace and  investment among others contrary to the crave to amass personal wealth.
Mr. Anosike, who expressed belief in what Governor Oshiomhole is doing in Edo State including the commitment to make Mr. Godwin Obaseki succeed him as the next governor of the state, also asserted that Comrade Oshiomhbole had utilised labour to add value to governance and service to the people.
While disclosing that Daily Times clocked 90 years this year and that the 40th edition of the Miss Nigeria beauty pageant is to be hosted this year, Mr. Anosike recalled that two prominent sons of Edo State, Peter Pam Enahoro and Prince Tony Momoh had made their marks in print journalism practice in their days in the Daily Times.
