BENIN CITY – The Edo State 2016 September 10th Governorship election would be “a fight over the cherished values of the people”. Besides, “it will mark a decisive turn in the socio-political future of the state and as such, the Peoples’ Democratic Party’s candidate Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu was already conceding defeat”, a statement by the Executive Director, Media and Public Affairs, Governor’s Office, Mr. John Mayaki has said.

The Executive Director who was reacting the PDP and her candidate’s accusation that the All Progressives Congress (APC) was ploting to rig the elections said, “the values cherished by the Edo man, and Edo woman cannot be mistaken. The PDP and her candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu are rattled by the looming rejection ahead of them and the only theory opened for them is to alleged rigging plans after his campaign of ‘I will do this and that’ collapsed in the face of Obaseki’s ‘we have done A, B, C, and still more to be done’.

“To worsen the political situation of the PDP”, Mayaki said, “their members are already warming up to vote APC’s Godwin Obaseki. They say Ize-Iyamy belongs to a party so dangerous both of them must be kept out of Osadebey Avenue. And that when the Pastor tells you to trust him, that’s the one thing you don’t do; you run like hell to get away from him and his party.

“Much of what Ize-Iyamu accuses APC of is quite understandable – I look forward to PDP’s increasingly hysterical squealings as we head forward to September 10th. Even if, as usual, PDP grossly overstate the case against Governor Adams Oshiomhole and Godwin Obaseki’s APC, Edo people will, with firm resolve, vote against them and their despicable candidate.

“The PDP is harkening back to the most shameful chapters of our history and appealing to the ugliest impulses of our society but we need to stand up, as a people rich in culture and values and say that the PDP doesn’t represent who we are and what we represent.

“Sensing trouncing at the polls, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu has signaled with his allegation that he will bring down the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the people-oriented government with him – a party full of prolific liars and barbaric in thinking. To understand what the PDP is up to, listen to their doppelganger – Chief Dan Orbih. He will say things that even Pastor will not say, usually as a way to allow Pastor to later repeat some variant of them – as to taste the food for the King to knowing the potency of its poison.

“And, picking up Pastor’s rigged election sermon – the outcome is fair only if he wins. If there’s voter fraud, this election will be illegitimate, the election of the winner will be illegitimate. I think it would be laughable if the PDP is simply laying down the grand excuse for the label that will follow Ize-Iyamu after September 10th – losers.

“Let’s talk about the basis for this sore loser uprising – the alarm they raised and the gaming of the INEC – is the PDP saying the people have made up their mind and that they would be fixed or crushed? Except they are hoping that Edo people would be too ignorant to know which Saturday in September is election day and that they are too backward to know the location of their local polling units, or else, Pastor – Ize-Iyamu and PDP are in for a bargained trouble.

“This election is between promise made by the PDP and the physical development unleased on us by  the APC led government of Adams Oshiomhole and electing its candidate, Godwin Obaseki was a matter of our self-enlightened interest even both to the PDP members who are committed to voting APC candidate”, Mayaki said.
