USELU : There was pandemonium in Egor Community recently after two gay suspects were reportedly caught in the act by a woman who claims to be a close door neighbor of the prime suspect.

One of the suspects identified simply as Mr John,  a 40 year old casual worker with Bendel Brewery is said to be in the constant  habit of inviting young boys to his apartment at No. 4, Useh Quarters, Egor Community.

Some close door neighbours were said to have been suspicious of his demeanour as it is unsual  for a man of his age to be without a wife or girlfriend.

Nemesis however caught up with him when on August 12, 2016 , he invited home his new partner later identified as 22 year old Lucky Oloto.

The duo were said to have retired to the inner room after a couple of beer in a nearby bar.

The bar owner  who is one of the close door neighbours of the prime suspect ,out of curiosity, decided to see what the two men were up to and behold, she saw them cuddling and kissing each other passionately.

Unable  to contain her indignation at what she had just witnessed, the woman was said to have raised the alarm.

But before she could explain what happened, the two gay suspects escaped through the back door.

Some angry community youths who heard of the abominable incident, later went on rampage, destroying properties belonging to the prime suspect, Mr John.

They later stormed the home of another man believed to be a homosexual in the community where they  beat him mercilessly before handing  him over to the police.

The  Clan Head of Egor Community, His Royal Highness, Prince Onobun Eweka expressed displeasure at the alleged report of homosexual activities in his domain.

The royal father said homosexuality or same sex marriage is an abominable act  strictly forbidden in Benin Kingdom.

He said  anyone caught in the act would be required to perform  some rigorous traditional ceremony to cleanse the land and  appease the gods. He said such person or persons would also be banished from the kingdom after performing the traditional cleansing ceremony.

The royal father said a formal report on the abominable act committed by the two gay suspects had been lodged with the police and expressed the hope  that both men would  soon be brought to face the consequences of their actions.

Meanwhile, following the complainant lodged by the Enogie ( Clan Head ) on behalf of the Egor Community, the police in Benin  City have declared the prime suspect John and his partner, Lucky Oloto wanted for sodomy.

The police in a statement, urged any member of the public with useful information that might lead to the arrest of the duo to report to the nearest police station within and outside Edo state.

Homosexuality or same sex marriage, apart from being considered a taboo in Nigerian communities, is also a criminal offence which attracts between 10 to 14 years in prison.
