Benin City – The Nigeria Civil Society has said they will hold Independent National Electoral Commission, Inec, accountable for its state of preparedness as they (Inec) administers the Edo State gubernatorial election slated for Wednesday.
In a statement delivered by the Convener, CSO Situation Room, Clement Nwankwo, stated that while the room welcomes Inec guidelines on simultaneous accreditation and voting, it further noted that it is the constitutional right for voters to stay back and ensure their votes count and are counted.
“Accordingly, mandate protection is the key to the success of the polls and should be guaranteed”, He said.
Nwankwo also said that the Situation Room will observe the performance of Security Agencies in dealing with voters and avoidance in act of intimidation and inappropriate use of force, other acts capable of undermining the electoral process.
He further added that the Situation Room will further observed the security agencies involved in the election and that actions of the personnel that threaten their non-partisanship is in focus.
The Situation Room however urged the Edo State Government to assure the electorate of their personal safety and enjoined voters to go out peacefully to emphasize their franchise.
