BENIN CITY – The Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) in Edo State has elected a new chairperson to pilot its affairs for the next two years. She is Evangelist Atekha Odemwengie.

The newly elected PCRC leader took over from Rev. Martins Evbuomwan who resigned his position due to a higher engagement.

Speaking shortly after her election, Evangelist Odemwengie promised to take the committee to greater heights.

“Our first dream is to enhance the relationship between the police and the people.

“We shall also through the community address some basic needs of the police.

“In this administration, our advocacy role for the police is very paramount.

“To achieve these, we must carry the Enigie, Edionwere, the community leaders… all along.

“We must let the people know whom the policemen are, because when you don’t know somebody, you misjudge that person”. She stated.

The formal chairman of the committee Rev. Martins Evboumwan expressed confidence in the leadership of Evangelist Atekha.

“I am happy that I am able to handover to a credible somebody who can surpass my achievements.

“I have that ideology that what a man can do a woman can do it far better”, he maintained.

Rev. Evbuomwan however stated that one of the achievements of PCRC under his watch in Edo is the establishment of a robust relationship between the police and members of the public.

The by-election was conducted to fill the position of the chairman whose executive tenure, has two years left.
