BENIN CITY – One Mr. Godwin Ogbebor, who was kidnapped by unknown gunmen has been declared missing following the attempted rescue operation by the State Police Command in Edo State.
According to a family source that chose to remain anonymous, “Mr. Godwin Ogbebor, a 46-year-old Chauffer, was kidnapped in the car of his employer, with five (5) others on August 25, 2016 along Upper Siluko-Okada Road, in Ovia North East Local Government Area, Edo State.”
It was gathered by our crime correspondent that after several futile efforts to hear or reach out to the kidnapped victims, the police, acting on a tip-off, raided their hideout, which led to some suspects escaped with bullet wounds.
It was also gathered however during the rescue operation, that the car of his employer, who is a popular politician in the community, was set ablaze and completely burnt, but the kidnappers and the kidnapped victims were nowhere to be found. This has however, heightened the fears and sorrow of the Ogbebor’s family and the family of the other missing victims.
In a related development, one of the escaped kidnapped victims, who chose not to disclosed his name, told our correspondent that “they have to escaped into different directions for their individual safety.”
According to him, “Mr. Godwin Ogbebor had earlier told me while we were held captive by the kidnappers that he cannot escape because, the kidnappers would come after him and his immediate family if he decides to run away from the captives.”
“He said for security reasons, he cannot run away, because he does not want them to come after him and his family”, he added.
A visit to the Police Command and his Ogbebor’s family resident revealed that while the police confirmed the continuous investigation and searching for the victims, the family of the Ogbebors are in deep pain and sorrow following the kidnapped related death of the mother of the kidnapped Godwin Ogbebor.
As at the time of filing this report, the whereabouts of Godwin Ogbebor and some other kidnapped victims could not be ascertained.
