Abuja –  The Federal High Court, Abuja, has adjourned the former Chief of Defence Staff, Alex Badeh’s trial till Oct. 27, Nov 2 and Nov. 3.

The judge, Justice Okon Abang, adjourned the matter when the prosecution concluded it he evidence in chief of the sixth witness on Wednesday.

The Prosecuting counsel, Rotimi Jacobs (SAN) led the sixth prosecution witness, Air Commodore Mohammed Sini the incumbent Director of Finance to conclude his evidence which started on Tuesday.

Sini told the court that on assumption of office he was intimated of the monthly disbursement of N558,200,000, officially earmarked for maintenance of the office of the Chief of Air Staff.

He said the amount was received by Badeh as there was no complain from him not receiving the money.

He said while he was there, as the Camp Finance Officer, there was no report or complain that the money released over the period of time did not reach Badeh

“If it did not reach the chief of Air staff, my Director Commandant Abdullahi Yushau would have told me or handle it but he never complained.

“Yushua made money available to the Chief of Air Staff so that it could be in line with the briefing he gave me on taking over of the affairs of 106 NAF Camp.

“The Chief of Air Staff did not also complain about the money not reaching him and I have never received a query from any quarters over the period in office concerning the money.

Sini also said when he became Director of Account in 2015 his duties, include over sight and coordination of the returns of the accounts of Nigerian Air Force.

“I also liaise on behalf of my branch chief with relevant government agencies such as Ministry of Defence, the Accountant General Office and the Auditor General Office.

The witness further said the N120,000,000 allocated monthly to the Air house was utlilsed for the running of the Air house which include movement of the chief of air staff.

He said the money also included maintenance of the Air house or any person related to the house while Yushua gave approves from time to time.

He further said N558, 200, 000 and N120,000,000 that was used for the construction of the Nigerian Air Force conference centre were from the saving after payment of salary.

“The custody of the N120,000,000 is with the cashier and the money is disbursed according to the instruction of my director,Yushua.

During cross-examination by Badeh’s Counsel, Akin Olujimi (SAN), he said he was not in office in Oct. 2012 to make payment of Ration Cash Allowance because he came in Nov. 2012.

Sini said he could not remember making any payment in November, adding that the office records would show if he did.

When asked if Badeh was a signatory to some documents tendered as exhibits, Sini said only Yushau and himself were signatory to the documents.

Sini also said he could not give details of Ration Cash Allowance from November, 2012 to December, 2013.

Badeh is facing trial along with Iyalikam Nigeria Limited for diverting N3.9 billion while in office.

The offence contravened Section 15 (2) (d) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2011 (as amended) and punishable under Section 15(3) of the same Act.
