UBIAJA — A young lady,Joseph Joy has fled his home town, Ewohimi in Esan South East Local Government Area, Edo State over his late husband’s family insistence that she must go through the traditional rites of drinking the water used in bathing his late husband’s corpse,as a way to prove that she was not involved in the death of her late husband.
A reliable family source told The NIGERIAN OBSERVER that Joseph Joy and her husband,Saturday were happily married with children,until he took ill in 2016.The illness,according to our source lasted for a long time,leading to his death September 2016.
It was gathered that the family of Saturday led by the eldest man in the family, Alhaji Musa,accused Joy of killing her husband.They alleged that she used witchcraft to kill him
It was further gathered that during the period of mourning,she was made to sit on bare floor inside a dark room that was locked.The family told her that she must drink the water used in bathing the corpse of her late husband,Mr Saturday,just to prove that she has no hand in his death.She refused to succumbed to the family demand,that was while she was locked in the dark room for several day,and was abused physically, mentally and emotionally.
One of the family members of the late husband,(name withheld) told our reporter that,Joseph Joy have a hand in her husband’s death that is the reason she refused to drink from the water.She said that it was a normal practice in most traditions in Nigeria.
It was also gathered that she survived the torture and maltreatment in the room,before she escaped.
Joseph Joy fled the community without her children as the late husband’s family members said that they ate going to kill her for the death of her husband
