BENIN CITY – A bill for a law to establish a Multi-Door Court House has scaled second reading on the floor of the Edo House of Assembly on Wednesday in Benin.

Leading the debate for the bill, the Majority leader, Foly Ogedengbe (APC Owan East) said that the bill when passed would be  an alternative conflict resolution mechanism in the judiciary sector.

Ogedengbe said the Multi-Door court House bill seeks to establish an independent conflict resolution centre.

“The bill if passed would speed up justice dispensation and also decongest the regular courts,” he said.

Ogedengbe said the Multi-Door court House bill if passed shall be governed by a governing council which shall consist of nine members.

According to the majority leader, The members of the board shall be headed by a chairman which shall be appointed by the Attorney General of the state.

Other lawmakers argued in favour of the consideration of the bill.

The speaker, Justin Okonoboh thereafter directed the bill to the House standing committee on judiciary.

Meanwhile, the Speaker, Justin Okonoboh has reconstituted 23 standing committees.

The house standing committee on selection would be headed by the speaker while, the house standing committee on information would be headed by Mr Festus Edughele.
