Benin City – The vice Chancellor of Igbinedion University Okada (IUO), Prof Eghosa Osaghae has announced that the institution will turn out a total of 676 graduates in the 2016 academic session.
Prof Osaghae disclosed before newsmen in Okada as part of the activities to mark the 14th convocation ceremony of the premier private university in the country.
He revealed that 22 students got first class in their various fields of academics, 219 clinched the second class upper, 222 students merited second class lower, while 8 students got third class respectively across the seven colleges of the institution.
The Vice Chancellor further revealed that School of Pharmacy turned out 41 graduates, while under the Post Graduate Programme, 7 students will be award PhD degree, 54 students bagged masters degree and 3 students for Post Graduate diploma respectively.
He particularly noted a total of133 students from the Federal Government Amnesty Programme would be among the 2016 graduands from the institution.This he said was the joint partnership the school maintained for the total meaning resourceful use of management and rehabilitation of our youths in the Niger Delta region.
He also noted that three Nigerians, who have distinguished themselves in their various works of life, among whom are His Imperial Majesty Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi Ojaja II, Ooni of Ife, Pastor Osarenren Ighiwi and Dr Amina Nabego will be conferred with the school Honorary Doctorate degrees.
While describing the school as a circular University that caters for all, the Vice Chancellor argued on while private universities are not affected by the Federal government TETFUND Project, in spite of the turnout of youths in various Entrepreneur scheme.
He however disclosed that the university Smart Partnership Programme initiated a while ago have continued to yield positive developments in the lives of students from the institution.
The activities to mark this year’s convocation ceremony in scheduled to start on the 21st of November with a lecture series.
