Edo State Government has given the assurance of present administration continuous support and encouragement to Sports Writers in Edo State alongside sports men and women in other to get the best out of them.

Comrade Philip Shaibu gave the assurance during the 2016 Edo SWAN Award Ceremony held at the Indoors Sports Hall, Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.

The Deputy Governor who was represented by the Chief of Staff, Office of the Deputy Governor, Hon. Kingsley Ehigiamusor, said in as much as the government is interested in the well being of sports men and women by way of encouragement through provision of sporting facilities and incentives, those who project them through publicity would also be carried along.

He added that the best way to appreciate sports writers in the state is to continue to assist them when the need arises. Hon. Shaibu maintained that the present government led by Governor Godwin Obaseki would not shy away from such responsibility, so as to encourage them to continue to discharge their duties effectively.

In a goodwill message, the Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, Comrade Musa Ebomianah while noting that there is strength in unity, advised Edo State SWAN members to be united so as to move the State Association forward.

Earlier in his address, the State Chairman of SWAN, Comrade Ahmed Aigbona stated SWAN’s readiness to continue to support the government of the day in its quest to properly develop sports and youth empowerment through employment opportunities in the state.

He assured that sports writers in the state would continue to discharge their duties and even improve upon it through wider media coverage for sporting activities.

Among those who were honoured on the occasion include the immediate past Governor of Edo State, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole for his outstanding contributions to development of sports facilities in the state.

Other awardees include Otasowie Ogbomwan, former Super Falcons star, Bernard Joman Eguakhide, former Athlete and Chairman, Dynamite Football Club of Benin, former SWAN Chairman, Edo State, Greg Igbinomwanhia and Mr. Matthew Okagha, Sports Editor, The Nigerian Observer among others.
