BENIN CITY – The Edo State House of Assembly on Tuesday called on the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) to urgently rehabilitate the failed portion on the Ikpoba River bridge and the gully on the upper axis of the road.
This is contained in the house resolution passed in Benin.
Moving the motion for the repair of the failed potion of the road, Mr Henry Okhuorobo, member representing (APC Ikpoba Okha) said the road serves as a gateway to various parts of the country.
Okhuorobo said” It has been observed that certain portion of the Ikpoba River bridge and around Ikpoba hill has caved in and needed urgent attention
“There is a potential danger to our citizens as well as impending hardship which if not urgently attended to will cut the city into two,” he said.
The lawmaker noted that it was the duty of government at all levels to construct and rehabilitate roads.
other lawmakers supported the motion and called for collaboration with members of National Assembly from Edo to raise the motion in their respective houses to fast track the repair of the Federal road.
The Speaker, Justin Okonoboh stressed the need for state ministries of work and environment to collaborate with FERMA to urgently fix the portion of the road.
Okonoboh thereafter directed that the resolution be sent to the relevant authorities for immediate action
