Okada- Edo state Governor,Mr Godwin Obaseki has urged the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) members to be part of the positive change being advocated by the federal government and to shun social vices capable of retarding the growth and development of the country.

Governor Obaseki gave the charge hrough his deputy,Rt Hon Philip Shaibu who represented him at the closing ceremony of the 2016 Batch ‘B’ ,stream 11 orientation course of the NYSC at their temporary orientation camp,Okada,yesterday.

Governor Obaseki who congratulated both the corp members and the state coordinator Abdullahi Yusuf Baba for the successful completion of their orientation course,urged the corp members to apply the knowledge and skills they acquired so far where ever they posted in the state so as to contribute their quotas to the development of the state.

He advised them to quickly settle down and integrate themselves with the people,especially in the rural areas as they move to their various places of primary assignment,assuring them that they would find their stay memorable and rewarding ,insisting that Edo people are accommodating and hospitable.

He also charged the corp members to respect Edo culture and traditions and to work towards excellence by contributing to the growth and development of their host communities,especially through Community Development Services (CDS) which he said said might qualify them for state honours awards at the end of their service year.

“The expectation of Edo state Government and its people as your host is to see you contribute your qouta positively to the development of your host communities to complement the efforts of your predecessors. The strength of national cohesion is in the vibrancy of the youth and their ability to explore areas that need growth and development in the society and to try through hard work,dedication,loyalty,discipline,patriotism and commitment to improve the lives of the people they come across. Through this,the objectives and set goals of the scheme would have been achieved.”

In an address,the state coordinator of the scheme Abdullahi Yusuf who thanked the state government for its support for the scheme,said a total of 2,230 corp members who participated in the orientation course completed the programme successfully out of whom 75% have been posted to various educational institutions in the state to impart knowledge on the young ones in compliance with the established posting policy of NYSC. According to him,the rest percentage consisting Doctors,paramedics and Lawyers were posted to rural health care centres and ministry of justice respectively.

He however expressed confidence in the corp members,saying that they actively participated in all camp activities and now fully equipped for the challenges of their service year.

The state Deputy Governor while insecting the pamanent NYSC camp in Okada, assured that government will expidite action to ensure ensure completion of work so that the next batch can move in.
