BENIN CITY- A 24-year-old man alleged to have been involved in a bloody communal clash in Edo State said only three cartons of live ammunition was in his possession when police arrested him in his embattled community in Edo State.

The Edo State Police Commissioner Mr Haliru Guandu paraded the suspect, Ehis Samson, 24, along with 31 others apprehended for various criminal offences across the state, last Friday.

Speaking with journalists during the parade, the suspect, Ehis Samson stated that the ammunition recovered from him was belong to one Monday, his kinsman.

“Sir, na just three cartons of cartridges, nor be gun them see for my house.

“Na my community man give them to me make I keep.

“My community, Ekhunbo is fighting with Iguomon community in Uhunmwande local government area”. He stated.

COMPOL Guandu stated that the police command had intensified its fight against communal clashes, land grabbing, land speculation and all activities inimical to community development in the state.

He advised community elders and leaders against allowing few disgruntled youths under any cover to sell their land as they would need such land tomorrow for meaningful development.

The police boss disclosed that a large number of sophisticated arms and ammunition have been recovered and suspects apprehended since the war against communal disturbances begun in Edo.

He however solicited the support and cooperation of members of the public towards a more secured Edo State.

He maintained that the suspects would be made to face prosecution at the end of investigation.
