The government of Edo State has concluded plans to deploy towncriers to about 192 wards across the 18 Local Government Areas of the state to mobilise and inform unemployed people as well as to register them in the ongoing “Edo jobs initiative”.

A statement from the Office of the Chief Press Secretary said, “Some peope still don’t understand how to go about the registration. You do not need to travel far to register. You don’t need to go all the way to your local village of origin. All you need is to visit the headquarters of the local government council of your residence and avail yourself of this opportunity. If you stay in Oredo, register there. It is free”.

It would be recalled that the government announced the commencement of registration process for the programme earlier in March, this year. This was in furtherance of the state governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki’s promise to create 200,000 jobs in the state.

However, to support the previous announcement and to further disseminate the information to the uninformed, the government chose to adopt the town-crier method of mass communication.

Mr Mayaki added that, “By using the town crier method, the Government hereby, once more, calls on those unemployed residents in the state who are yet to register in the ongoing ‘Edo Jobs Initiative’ in the 18 local government areas of the state to do so while the offer lasts”.
