BENIN CITY: Edo State Governor Mr. Godwin Obaseki has lunch the State Integrated Information Management System (SIFIMS) to enhance and actualize his administration’s vision of a repositioned e-driven Civil Service in the state.

Governor Obaseki who flagged off the system in government house Benin City said the flag off is significant because the Public Service has moved into a new era and this achievement has been made possible due to the courage of the former governor Comrade Adams Oshiomhole who paved the way for today’s event.

He said the government was able to detect and perceive that governance in Nigeria will depend on how to adopt technology to drive governance. “Comrade Oshiomhole dare the system and implements the oracle software for the Civil Service which resulted to several challenges but the state moved on to face those challenges and today the story is a success”.

Obaseki said the State Integrated Information Management System is a revolution and only the people of Edo and a State like Edo that can take this bold step to lunch a system of this nature.

He stressed the need of repositioning the Civil Service because it is important to any nation that wants to grow. “Nigeria worked because the Civil Service worked, the Civil Service worked because they were processes and system that makes it work. The processes provided the platform for the successes recoded by the government which was deliberately implemented and enforced.

He said things are not working today because the working processes have been disrupted and it is now a challenge bringing those processes back to work. “To make it work, we need to borrow the system and re-enacting technology”.

“SIFIMS is our first attempt to get government to work again more transparently and effectively. There is nothing new but only automating what should have been and updating the processes in the Civil Service”.

He called on the people to embrace technology saying that it is not easy but also very simple depending on individuals. He said as a government they will make the process simple as his administration want to run e-government.

Obaseki disclosed that his administration have completed the process of acquiring 1,000 units of computers and the first 300 is ready for deployment to make connectivity possible as it will enable his administration run an e-government.

He promise to complete the Block C section of the Secretariat this year and fence it round from the ministry of works in Sapele road to the High Court Complex saying that his administration will provide wireless internet connection to offices to make Civil Service job easier.

Earlier, the Accountant General of Edo State Mr. Isaac Ehiozuwa commended the governor Godwin Obaseki for his commitment and determination to run and ensure transparent and effective governance through the flag off of SIFIMS.

He said all is set to run the system in the state as all those concerned have been fully trained and all financial transaction of the state shall be done through the use of the computers.
