BENIN CITY: Edo State Governor Mr. Godwin Obaseki has said exceptional ones among the 2,100 youths in the state trained on digital marketing and skills development would be empowered to boost employment creation in the state.

He made this known while delivering his welcome address to participants at the workshop for youth empowerment on digital marketing and skill development with the theme: Diversifying the Nigeria Economy: Enabling Youth through digital skill Training.

Obaseki represented by the commissioner for Wealth Creation, Cooperative and Employment Barr. Emmauel Usoh said the state government is partnering with the federal government to prepare participants for leadership role as such called on the participant to take the workshop seriously as the best will get support from Edo State Government. “Bank of Industry (BOI); Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and other development partners’ gives us grant to empower these participants which will help create job.

“Training is endless; I urge you all to take the workshop seriously as the training you will receive here today will equip you and place you in a better position digitally to rule the world as the Godwin Obaseki led administration is a digital one and would create the platform for you to actualize your dreams.

Obaseki called on participants who were selected out of the over 150,000 in the Edo jobs portal to make use of the opportunity created by the workshop to better their lives as well as create jobs for others. “It is a great opportunity to talk to you and encourage you to do what is necessary to create wealth for yourselves. In doing this you must plan, prepare and participate fully in this training.

“Edo state is strategically located, more bless and at the centre of economic activities as such has the capacity to domesticate economic activities to become the economic hub of the nation.

He said Edo people are intelligent, creative, smart and are good people who are business oriented and can use their potentials to make the state great. “We have a government well position to ensure that every Edo man or woman has the potentials to create wealth and contribute their quotas to the development of the State” he concluded.

The Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the president on Sustainable Goal Princess Adejoke Orelope said the training is going on across the federation as about 250,000 youths will benefits from the workshop.

Orelope, who was represented by her Press Secretary Tunde Oyasanya said one of the cardinal of sustainable develop goal is to ensure that youths should be empowered and when youths are empowered we will be able to reduce poverty, there will be enough food and jobs in the nation.

The director of ICT Yuwa Naps said the ultimate goal for the training is to make digital entrepreneur out of participants. “This will be followed by a three weeks online training for them. We are planning to invest on the exceptional participants among them and grow them into entrepreneur that we will closely monitor” she said.

A Google certified trainer Elijah Otor said the participants are been trained on Digital Skill 101 which is an orientation course and an introduction to the programme. He said they are not expected to all the information needed in just a day, they will learn through the process how to expand their digital opportunities.
