BENIN CITY- The Edo Police Command said it had begun the profiling of crime as part of renewed strategies to boost security of lives and property in the state.

The Commissioner of Police deployed to Edo State recently, CP Johnson Babatunde Kokumo stated this during his interaction with journalists in Benin City, last week.

He noted that the essence of the profiling was to come out with a unique, unbeatable and workable strategy that would not be counterproductive when applied along with the general crime fighting strategies of the police force.

“What we are busy doing now is crime profiling.

“It is when we are able to have proper crime profiling, study the synopsis, know the distribution of crime, then we will be able to evolve the most appropriate crime fighting, preventing strategies”. CP Kokumo stated.

The police boss in the state further maintained that mission in Edo was to reduce crime to a barest tolerable minimum.

He said the support and collaboration of all security agencies, community, traditional and religious leaders, professional bodies, market women other stakeholders would be enlisted as information is key to modern policing.

“Our mission is to reduce crime to a barest tolerable minimum.

“I am here to work, to work hard, to serve with diligence the good people of Edo State.

“In doing this, we are going to fight crime and criminals with all the arsenals available to us.

“We want to say in clear terms that we are going to partner with sister security agencies, traditional rulers, religious leaders, markect women, community leaders, civil society organizations professional bodies like NUJ, MBA, NBA, NUT, and others.

“I want to put this across to you, in some instances, vital, relevant information, just one is much more better to a policeman than one thousand and one AK47 riffles”. CP Kokumo stated.

Since on Monday, October 23, 2017 when CP Kokumo assumed duty in Edo the state police command has reportedly arrested no fewer than 40 high profile suspected criminals including four of the eight kidnappers who gunned down three policemen before abducting the Managing Director, Ogba Zoo and Nature Park, Dr Andy Ehanire, younger brother of the Minister of State for Health Dr Osagie Ehanire at the premises of the zoo on Airport Road, Benin City, on Sunday, September 24, 2017.

He was reporedly freed in Warri, Delta State on Saturday, October 14, 2017.

Also, apprehended were seven persons said to have principally participated in the gruesome murder of a lecturer at the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, University of Benin, UNIBEN, Professor Paul Otasowie in Benin City on Wednesday, October 4, 2017.
