BENIN CITY- The Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 5′ AIG Abubarka Adamu Muhammed has directed the three Commissioners of Police in Edo, Delta and Bayelsa States to to stem the waves of kidnapping in their various states.

The AIG gave the directive when he met with the CPs over the security situation in the three states that make zone at the zonal headquarters, Benin City on Wednesday,  October 25,  2017.                                                                                      The CPs are Johnson Babatunde Kokumo, Edo,  Zannah Muhammed, Delta and Amba. A. Asuquo of Bayelsa state. AIG Adamu who frowned at the spate of kidnapping in some parts of the zone, charged the Commissioners of Police to ensure adequate security of lives and properties.

He further directed that security be beefed up in all the entry and exit points of the cities and rural areas in their respective commands.

He also charged the Commissioners of Police to commence intensive patrol of the nooks and crannies to check incessant kidnapping in the zone.The AIG further directed that command Commissioners of Police should de-emphasized their priorities on investigation of cases and focused on patrol, visibility policing and other crime     preventive measures.

He also observed that there are too many policemen attached to various units at the command Headquarters and therefore directed the Commissioners of Police to identified these units and ensure they are deployed to Divisions for visibility policing and patrol.

He reiterated the importance of intelligence led policing in the fight against crime and criminality even as he urged the Commissioners of Police to engaged men of state intelligence Bureau at their respective commands in this regards. The Assistant Inspector – General of Police also directed  the Commissioners of Police to ensure the enforcement of the directive of the Inspector General of Police ban on road blocks in their respective commands.

He  also noted that some policemen abandon their duty post  for illegal duties and warned that severe disciplinary action await anyone caught for illegal duties.

AIG Adamu however emphasized the need for commands to collaborate with stakeholders and other non state actors in our collective quest to rid the zone of crime and criminality.
