BENIN CITY – Edo state Commissioner of Police, Johnson Kokumo, has charged citizens to be vigilante at all times and be wary of their environment, to check insecurity.

The Edo COMPOL gave the charge on Tuesday, during the Nationwide Security Awareness Sensitization campaign, organised by National Orientation Agency(NOA), in Benin city.

CP Kokumo who was the guest speaker at the occasion was represented by Superintendent of Police(SP) Anthony Nnachor noted that, criminals are not magicians, hence they work with information.

According to him, “be vigilante at all times, you have to be suspicious of everybody around you, because you do not trust everybody. Never give out confidential information carelessly, the type of information that concerns you as a person.

Earlier in her welcome address, the Acting State Director, NOA, Mrs. Grace Eseka, said, the event is one in a series of programs lined up for the engagement of people on peace and security across the three senatorial districts of Edo state.

Mrs Eseka who called for the sharing of ideas that would benefit the people, especially on security, noted that, it would promote harmonious society and make the state safe for all round development.

While commending federal and Edo state government for checking insecurity , the Acting Edo NOA Director, frowned at hate speeches and rumor-mongering peddled on social media, describing it as a worrisome development.

“The political class, civil society organizations and the media in particular, impact more on the general public by their actions or inactions and therefore more is expected of them in building people for peace, good neighborliness and security”, She noted.

Also in his remarks, Resident Electoral Commissioner(REC) for Edo State, INEC, Mr. Obo Effanga, enjoined citizens to embrace peace, noting, without peace there can be no development.

The Edo REC who was the chairman of the occasion and represented by Head of Department Voter Education and Publicity. Mr. Francis Ikpefua, added, “where you have insecurity, movement is restricted.
