ABUJA – Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday voided the suspension of Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume saying the suspension is against the law.
The Court also directed the Senate President, Bukola Saraki to ensure prompt payment of Ndume’s salaries and allowances.
Senate had suspended Ndume in March 2017 over request for investigation into allegations of importing a bullet proof range rover with fake documents involving Senate President Bukola Saraki and that of perjury involving Dino Melaye.
However, Justice Babatunde Quadri, in a judgment ordered reinstatement of Numerous into the Red .
The judge said the suspension was an exhibition of lawlessness on the part of the Senate because it was unlawful in the part of the Senate leadership to have suspended Ndume in the first place.
The judgment was on Ndume’s suit marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/551/2017, with which he challenged his suspension for 90 days via a letter dated March 30, 2017.
It could be recalled that Senate had suspended Ali Ndume, its former leader, who had asked for investigation of allegations of importing a bullet proof range rover with fake documents involving Senate President Bukola Saraki and that of perjury involving Dino Melaye.
The Senate reached the decision, after the resolution to uphold the recommendation of the committee on ethics and privileges chaired by Samuel Anyanwu.
He was suspended for six months, instead of one year originally recommended by the ethics committee.
Mr. Anyanwu, whose committee convened investigative hearing on the two matters on Monday, reported that Mr. Ndume failed to conduct proper investigation before making “the allegations”.
Ndume suspension expected to expire by next week.
