BENIN CITY-Gunmen have killed a 44-year-old man during the burial of his mother in Benin City, last weekend.

The victim, Dupe Idahor was said to be under a canopy with friends and relatives when the gunmen arrived in a car, accosted and opened fire on him.

After killing the man the armed men abandoned their operational vehicle, snatched another car belonging to the deceased friend and sped off.

The vehicle was later abandoned and recovered by the men of Textile Mill police division a distance away from the scene of crime.

It was gathered that the shooting forced family members to abandoned the corpse of their 82-year-old mother Mrs Deconess Taiwo Albert who was laid in state, and scampered for safety in the compound.

The tragedy occurred at 2, 4th Nosayaba lane, Off Nosayaba Street, Off TV Road, Benin City. about 9pm, on Friday, December 1, 2017.

When our reporter visited the scene last Saturday an Audi 80 car said to belong to the victim was parked under one of the canopies as blood stain was still visible in the ground.

Younger sister of the deceased said their late mother Deconess Taiwo Albert was eventually laid to rest that Saturday morning.

She said the killing of her brother was a set up by one of his friends (name withheld) who was with him during the unfortunate incident.

Contacted about 5pm yesterday the spokesman, Edo police command DSP Chidi Nwanbuzor said “as you can hear the sound on the background I am in the church”.

Unconfirmed source said a suspect is already in police custody.

It will be recalled that similar incident happened on Saturday, April 17, 2017 when unidentified gunmen killed 35-year-old man, Bobby Usiobaifo during the burial ceremony of his father, Late Pa. Abel Usiobaifo in Osariemen Street, Akagbosun area of Evbotubu, Benin City.
