BENIN CITY- Edo State Governor Mr. Godwin Obaseki has sworn-in newly appointed Special Adviser on Gender Mrs. Efosa Uyigue charging her and the 18 Special Assistants to work positively to affect women in the state.
He urged them not see their appointment as just another political appointment to make some people happy but one that will go a long way to change the circumstances and fortune of the women who are about 50 per cent of the people of the state.

Congratulating the appointees, governor Obaseki said any society that seeks to have rapid progress and development must not ignore or isolate the women because they represent 50 per cent of the society. “Women represent 50 per cent if not more of our population. There must be more women representation in everything we do, I we want progress and development”.

He said there are lots of gender issues in the society that the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development can’t handle hence the need for the appointment of a Special Adviser and 18 Senior Special Assistant on gender who monthly will report issues affecting the women to his office.

“Every month, you will report to my office issues affecting the women. I will know what is going on in your local government on issues affect women in the market, health situation at the basic level, basic education and issue of trafficking”.

“I need 19 eyes to help me see and know what is happening with women across the state. I realize that women are powerful economic units and social mobilizer, people who can change our society. So we should create the avenue to reach them, know what they are going through not only to use them for political gains but need to support them to do more for themselves”.

Appreciating the governor for the honor done them, the Special Adviser on Gender Mrs. Efosa Uyigue thank the governor for the appointment assuring him that they will be commitment and contribute their quota to improve the lives of the women in the state.
She pray that God bless the governor to do more for the state.
