BENIN CITY – Residents and motorists around Exoti Street junction by Airport road in Benin city yesterday commended Edo state government for its concern in the safety of road users.
The residents who made the commendation immediately after Edo state deputy governor, Rt. Hon Philip Shaibu made a brief stop over, said that the state government had overtime kicked against the flouting of traffic rules, hence the mounting of traffic lights at strategic roads in the metropolis.
It was gathered that, the Edo deputy governor, had made a stop over in the area to ascertain the working conditions of traffic lights at the junction.
Speaking with our correspondent, an EDSTMA official who declined to give her name said, Comrade Shaibu came to see for himself the malfunctioning traffic lights.

According to the EDSTMA official, “he (Comrade Shaibu) had stop over to enquire about the state of the bad traffic lights. He promised they will be fixed very soon”.
A motorist who simply identified himself as Mr Iyamu said, the traffic lights had been faulty for sometime and applauded the Edo number two man for coming to see things for himself.
“The government should do the same to other roads with bad traffic lights in Benin, not only here”, Mr Iyamu added
Also, a resident, Miss Grace Chiedu who expressed surprise at the unscheduled move by Shaibu, said, “I saw him cautioning a man that packed his car wrongly after i was told he come to see for himself the malfunctioning traffic lights”.
The former House of Representatives member was seen decked in his usual comrade ‘khaki’ by our correspondent, but could not be reached for comments as he was sighted from a distance leaving the area.
