ABUJA – The Chief Security officer of the National Assembly Mr M S Brighton Danmalis (Rtd) SAA has alleged the possibility of internal conspiracy of some of the security agents attached to the House during the investigation into the snatching and consequently taking away of the Senate Mace.

Brighton Danmalis made this revelations when he appeared before the joint adhoc committee on the invasion of the national Assembly by hoodlums last month who forcefully took away the Mace inside the senate chamber in Abuja.

Speaking earlier the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ikweremadu had also allegedly indicted some lawmakers of the role played in the carting away of the Mace by the said hoodlums.

Senator Ikweremadu disclosed that the incident was simply an attack on democracy which required emergency remedies.

He expressed concern on the porosity of the national Assembly as well as the docile nature of various security agencies in the complex and called for an overhaul of entire security structure, as he added that the National Assembly would soon propose a bill seeking to arm Sergeant at arm personnel against similar invasion.

The deputy senate president maintained that for this be achieved, sergeant at arm to be kitted properly to avert similar occurrence in the future.

Senator Ike Ikweremadu bemoaned the use of women as sergeant at arm to manning the chambers, adding that he was looking forward that opportunity where energetic boys would be assigned to take charge of the chambers gates.

In his opening speech the chairman of the committee, senator Bala Ibn Na’Allah said the committee was saddled with the responsibility to investigate and ascertain the voracity of the invasion and recommend to the national Assembly the way forward.
