OKPEPKE – The vice chancellor of the Ambrose Alli University ( AAU) Ekpoma-Edo State, Prof. Ignatius Onimawo has said the university ran against cultism during the 2018 10km Okpekpe Road Race to draw attention to the evil of cultism.

Students of the Ambrose Alli University led by it Vice Chancellor had embarked on campaign against cultism during the annual 10km race.

Prof. Onimawo explained that he was encouraged to participate in the race by the need to discourage cultism in all ramification.

“The Idea is that if the awareness is created, people will not be encouraged to join.

“We want the awareness to be created that it is an evil organisation that only kills and maim people. It is not worthy and of no benefit for people to join”, he said.

The vice chancellor described the students’ participation as innovative, adding that it would discourage students of the institution against social vices.

“The campaign against cultism is to ensure that cultism and other social vices are stamped out from the institution”, he emphasized.

The president of Students’ Union Government of AAU, comrade corroborated the statements of the vice chancellor, saying they were in the race to demonstrate the university’s abhorrence for cultism.

He said cultism has been stamped out of AAU, adding that he, the number one student of the institution, as well as his executive members do not belong to any cult group, hence were being emulated by other students.

Aside the run against cultism, other organisation such as Re-industrialise Africa, Women Empowerment, for Charity and Orphanages ran for breast cancer awareness, while the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) use the opportunity to sensitize the people to register and get their Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) for the 2019 general election.
