It is a wonderous political effect to continue to run a system as ours on the wheel of infamous annual global corruption index; the founding fathers of this Country pegged their administrative timeline on the quadruple of modesty, discipline, fairness and service to humanity, where we got it wrong as a nation that corruption and indiscipline became a daily norm in our behavioural fabric continue to beat natural imagination; PDP’s 16-year rule remains the most corruption-driven era in our political historicity
Once it was when billions of dollars designated for the purchase of military hard and software was surreptitiously shared amongst a select few who at one time or the other found themselves in the good books of a brother-leader, arms that would have aided the security and protection of the lives of endangered Nigerian North-Easterners greatly threatened by the deadly Boko-Haram; we are not also unaware of the wasteful $16billion that was sunk into the provision of electricity for a vast majority of Nigerians which eventually went into the drain; little wonder a former British Prime Minister conveniently described this entity under the wasteful PDP administration as fantastically corrupt, that was just one of the millions of infamous descriptions that brought us shame while the PDP held sway
It is a truism that the back of anti-corruption war that the President Buhari and Nigerians adopted to sack the PDP from power in 2015 has remained unbroken; while the war has been tough, rigorous and rudimentary, certain elements with opposing political fireworks continue to gather strength to fight the crusade against corruption; describably, we have a man with a strong-footed integrity on the plough, it is a fight to finish; conscientious Nigerians cannot be cowed to return to the helms of affairs directed by a political family that understands nothing but “share the money” living a vast majority of Nigerian poor to squalor, hardship and unpaid labour
Today, they can be seen globetrotting from one region of Country to another trying to recruit fresh and expired products to execute a devious 2019 agenda; the ooze of corruption goes with them and even gets to their destinations before them; hence, a few months to the Presidential election, a supposedly participating party cannot find a man or woman of trust amongst the lots to showcase to anxious Nigerians as a Presidential candidate; towards the scheduled February 16th, 2019 Presidential election, the PDP’s instrument of campaign remains yet unknown, speculatively they will be banking on the seemingly compromised security architecture which of course has led to an unfortunate loss of lives via the deadly approach of Fulani herdsmen but of course it is not in doubt that the President works hard to rejig and rekit this sector of society
The speculated defection of some APC stalwarts Saraki, Dogara, Kwankwaso, Tambuwa, Ortom and co remains another instrument of campaign; it is only sad that our political system is distance away from refinement hence it is a natural phenomenon to belong to a certain political organization and yet align with another party to wreck havoc against your home; otherwise, anti-party activities should be rewarded with outright expulsion; however, the confidence reposed in the national leadership of our Great Party the APC ably led by Comrade Adams Oshiomhole remains a fundamental precursor for the 2019 victory; while the battle may yet be tiresome, the sweet smell of victory remains an elixir to a sickening political exercise; this is the courage that Oshiomhole gathers and brings to the board in his efforts to engage critical stakeholders on the need to stay home and win together
President Buhari is a global anti-corruption ceasar; while the hammer on corruption remains unhindered, and going by the accolades gathered from local and international stakeholders, it can best be said that a vast majority of Nigerians are comfortable with the ongoing crusade to completely eliminate the scourge of corruption substantially energized by PDP’s 16-year peregrination; we must now channel a substantial energetic disposition to protect Nigerian lives at home and in the diaspora, a situation where Nigerians are hacked to death in Countries like South Africa, Indonesia and Malaysia for alleged criminal tendencies must have to stop; our Country’s foreign policy must be seen to be strengthened to check such practice that truncates natural justice
While Nigerian youths must continue to explore best possible alternatives through service, work and creativity to support people-oriented administrations, they must not fall the fool to the orchestrations of the opposition to distract a performing government; it is near impossible to identify a political party that supports direct youth and inclusive participation in politics like the APC; the current local government administration particularly in my Edo State is a test statement to APC’s unwavering commitment to inclusive participation even at the State level, we can see the resultant effect of the integration of young, bright minds in the governance superstructure which of course apparently paves the way for increased youth participation; we must not now allow a handful of youths to truncate the chances of a vast majority for pecuniary gains and interests
Nigerians must challenge the PDP or the newly constituted CUPP and other opposing forces to delve into the arena of campaigns and engage in non-violent democratic exercise; a situation where the PDP brazenly boycott elections is anti-democratic and must be greatly discouraged; not even a statement to that effect (boycott) must be made by any political party constituted by democratic laws; realistically, the PDP boycotted the March 3rd local government election in Edo State; just last week, she has threatened to boycott the 2019 elections, this anti-democratic practice must stop otherwise Nigerians must begin to call on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to invoke the process to de-register such group
While President Buhari remains a fundamental determining factor to APC’s success in 2019, due largely to his unblemished integrity and knack for due process, and going by the Ekiti victory and a high possibility to retain Osun in October, campaigns of calumny to discredit Buhari’s administration must be given frontal resistance; Nigerians will not survive been ushered back to the days of the dogs when corruption and a dress-rehearsed economy remained our mainstay; to completely kill corruption in our body polity, we must painstakingly x-ray the integrity and character formation of the players in the field of the Presidential race; we must paddle our minds back and forth and ask ourselves this critical question; WHO WILL FINISH THIS WORK?
