BENIN CITY – The Young Africa Leaders Initiative (YALI) has charged youths in Nigeria to “stand up” and get involve in politics, especially in Edo state which according to the network is third among states with the highest number of uncollected Permanent Voters Card (PVC).

The Coordinator, YALI Network, Edo State hub, Franklin Imhomoh gave the charge on Monday in Benin city, during a stop over at the Bendel Newspapers Company Limited (BNCL), publishers of The OBSERVER titles office, while on an advocacy campaign through major roads in the Benin metropolis.

Imhomoh said the campaign became necessary due to leadership problem in Nigeria, which he asserted can be solve when the youths actively participate in the country’s political activities.

“When we discovered that there are over 500,000 uncollected PVC at the Edo office of INEC (Independent National Electoral Commission), we have to mobilize the people, especially the youth to go get their PVC which is their only voice and power to effect the needed change”, He said.

The Edo YALI Coordinator said, the network is focused on young persons because youths in the country occupy 60 percent of the population, adding that, If they can get their PVC, good governance is certain.

The coordinator however called on Edo residents who are yet to collect their PVC to do so in other for them to have a the power to chose those that will lead them.
