WARRI – Olu of Warri, His Royal Majesty, Ogiame Ikenwoli, has charged politicians to always fall back to their home to help in its development.
Ogiame gave the charge on Tuesday at his Warri palace, Delta State while playing host to Irone Rita Begho, an All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial aspirant for Delta South Senatorial district.
The monarch who said his blessing for politicians seeking elective positions is free and does not solicit monetary gains , however emphasised the need for politicians to always ensure that they keep in touch with their root .
“Money is not everything, I don’t need your money to give you my blessing. I am always ready to give you my blessing for nothing. I will give you freely. ”
“I often tell our sons and daughters who are well placed and well exposed , not to forget their roots and return to develop their land”.
The monarch, who described Solicitor Begho as qualified and competent looking at her CV, however admonished her to follow the footsteps of her father , Late Chief E.N.A.Begho (a prominent Itsekiri chief) who left a good legacy.
“Your CV shows you are competent and capable. All you need is my blessing; you don’t have a problem, but you must be ready to face other qualified contestants because at the end , only one person must emerge . ” Ogiame, said.
Earlier, the aspirant, Irone Begho, a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, with 32 years post-call experience, said she was in the palace to inform the monarch of her senatorial aspiration and seek his fatherly blessing .
While calling for a paradigm shift in the development strategy of the Niger Delta given its enormous human and natural resources, the Peace Building Conflict Management and youths development expert , said it was time to have a woman Senator “after more than 18 years of uninterrupted male domination in Delta South Senatorial district.
According to her, she’s most qualified for the senate seat because “the job is one that requires good knowledge of the law making processes, solid educational exposure, vast national and international contacts and deep love and loyalty to the Itsekiri people .”
Begho, who arrived the palace with her supporters, promised to collectively correct the massive infrastructural and human capacity development deficit in the district if given the mandate..
The former employee of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), is also a former Director, Delta State Development and Property Authority and a former Director , Federal Ministry of Water Resources.
Prominent among other contestants in the primaries, is a former two-tme governor of Delta State, Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan.
