ABUJA- National Assembly is likely to reconvene next week to consider and pass the proposed budget for the 2019 elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

This followed an interface between the leadership of the two chambers of the NASS and INEC officials led by their Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu.

Although they questioned the rationale for coming to the National Assembly nearly three weeks to the elections and not a few months ago.

Senate President Bukola Saraki and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara chorussed NASS commitment to ensuring that the elections are without hitches.

The Senate President also appealed to President Buhari to sign the Electoral Act Amendment Bill

The National Assembly will call off the break to consider the letter of President Muhammadu Buhari on the proposed sum of N164 billion to be provided for through virement or supplementary of the 2018.

They are also to look into the over N242 billion presidential request for the conduct of 2019 general elections.

At the meeting, the INEC chairman told the federal legislators that by statutes and convention, the Commission has just eight days to begin preparations for the elections.

The meeting was presided over by Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, with the Speaker, House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara in attendance.

Though principal officers of the All Progressives Congress (APC) were not at the meeting, that of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) attended the meeting at room 301, Senate Wing.

The Senate President had on Monday convened a meeting with the INEC boss to hold on Tuesday which was later postponed, following a siege to the National Assembly by officers of the Department of State Services (DSS).
