Benin City- The lifeless body of a member of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Edo State , Chris Okonkwo, who was abducted in June 2016 has been found, with his remains decomposing in a bush around Benin Auchi Okene Federal road in Edo State.
Until his death the deceased was a frontline member of the Apc in Umagbae Ward 5 Uhunmwonde Local Government Area of the state.
Speaking to journalists in Benin City on the efforts of the Edo State Police Command in tackling the lingering cases of kidnapping and murder in the State especially with political tensions in the state,
the police image maker ASP Emeka Iheanacho recalled that Samuel Evbuomwan, the PDP Ward Chairman of Umagbae Ward 5, Osazee James and Iyamu Ojo are the three suspects culpable in the murder of Chris Okonkwo.
It will be recalled that there was a political uprising in Umagbae constituency in 2016 where politicians from various parties turned that part of the state to a war zone in their desperation for victory.
However, The Nigerian Observer Crime Desk gathered that two of the suspects in connection with the crime Osazee James and Iyamu Ojo were members of the executive of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP in Umagbae, the Crime Desk also gathered that they were subsequently sentenced to death by hanging by ” a court of competent jurisdiction ” in Benin City in 2016.
The Police Command said that it is doing all it can to arrest Samuel Evbuomwan, who is currently still at large, and assured that when found he would be made to face charges of kidnapping and murder and if found guilty will face the full wrath of the law.
The police image maker had stated that Mr Okonkwo was kidnapped during the Umagbae crises between both parties in the build up to the 2016 gubernatorial election in the state.
