AYOGWIRI-A 23-year-old man has allegedly beheaded a carpenter in Ayogwiri Community in Etsako West Localocal Government Area of Edo State.
The victim, Atogwe Asilemhe, 46, it was learnt, was on his way to work at site when the suspect, Odion Jimoh attacked him with a cutlass and severed his head in the process.
The incident which many described as unprovoked attack attracted residents of the community who promptly contacted the police in the area.
The suspect was subsequently arrested and taking to police custody.
Police source stated that the suspect who confessed to the crime said he acted alone as he did not know what came over him.
Confirming the killing, the Public Relations Officer for Edo Police Command DSP Chidi Nwabuzor said the case was now being investigated by the homicide unit at the command headquarters in Benin.
He said the incident was reported to the police shortly after it occurred about 12noon on Sunday, October 14, 2018.
DSP Nwabuzor explained that the suspect would be arraigned for murder as a cutlass had been recovered as exhibit.
