WARRI – There was pandemonium in Ward 19 Unit 15 along Eku -Amukpe near Sapele in Sapele Local Government Area of Delta State during Saturday’s elections as hoodlums allegedly opened fire on voters leading to the death of three persons.

NIGERIAN OBSERVER gathered that, unknown gunmen stormed the polling units when the voting was still on and started shooting at the voters.

About two persons died instantly while one who got bullet wound was said to have died at an undisclosed hospital. Two others have been hospitalized.

Residents who were unwilling to volunteer information about the incident, said they were on queue waiting to be accredited when some armed men drove in and started shooting directly at voters.

Although, it could not be ascertained who the shooters were, it appeared they came to scare away the large crowd of voters who tuned out to perform their civic responsibilities.

The incident saw both INEC ad-hoc Staff, security agents and eligible voters scampering for safety as sporadic gunshots rented the air.

Some electoral materials were seen scattered on the floor with soldiers mounting barricade on the road.

When contacted, Delta state Commissioner of Police, Adeyinka Adeleke confirmed the incident saying a clear case of politically motivated killing had been established, investigations were on to ascertain which political party carried out the killing.

Meanwhile as the corpses of the deceased identified as Jerry Otevane and Micheal Chibuike have been deposited in a morgue .
