BENIN CITY – In an alleged case of mistaken identity, one Charles Aro has been arrested by the police for homosexuality in Benin City, the Edo state capital.
Charles, an identical sibling to Nelson Aro was said to have been into same sex relationship with one Mr Iredia Kingsley who confessed him as his partner to the police. But, the police arrested Charles, mistaken him for Nelson who had fled Benin City in 2016 after learning of his partner’s arrest.
However, the said Charles Aro has been release from police detention, and was directed to always report at the police station at least once weekly.
Since his freedom, Charles is been constantly harassed by the police, which he has now call on civil society in the state to come to his aid as he is innocent.
Meanwhile, the family of Nelson has disowned him as their mother recently developed hypertension following the incessant storming of their home by the police who are searching for her fleeing son.
It was however gathered that, their ancestral home was vandalized by irate mob, forcing their hypertensive mother to flee to a nearby community.
The police confirmed the case, but denied harassing the family.But stated that the man hunt for Nelson Aro has been intensified and that they will live no stone unturned till he is arrested
Homosexuality is a crime punishable by law in Nigeria when found guilty, as those found culpable are sentenced to at least 14 years behind bars.
