Aba – It was a bloody afternoon at the Nkporo street area of Aba Municipality as men of the Nigeria Police launched an attack on the hideout of suspected members and supporters of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB),resulting in the death of six persons and many sustaining injuries.
Eye witnesses accounts said that the police and other intelligence agencies had tracked the IPOB agitators in the area leading to exchange of gun shots between the security men and the separatists.
Another account indicated that the agitators were holding a sensitization rally when the police swooped on them, killing about six persons and arrest of several others made while a good number of them escaped with bullet injuries.
However, the police authorities have asked members of the public to help track down the wounded and fleeing IPOB members for them to face prosecution.
The police named some of the fleeing IPOB members to include Chimobi Anyankwu, Okoro Tochukwu Stephen, James Amaechi Onyonwu and Ndoki Osinachi Onyukwu.
The police in a statement said Okoro Tochukwu Stephen is the coordinator of the Nkpoio Street Cell group of IPOB who besides mobilizing them, is also in charge of distributing IPOB inscribed T-shirts, fez caps, handbands etc which he had used to entice many youth into the outlawed group.
Recall that the Federal Government had declared IPOB a terrorist organization and outlawed its operations in the country.
