Tight security and voter apathy were recorded at the house of assembly poll in Edo State, yesterday.

Polling centres monitored by our reporter revealed low turnout of eligible voters as officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were seen attending to them amid tight security.

The Commissioner of Police on election duty in Edo South CP Dan Malam Mohammed commended Edo people for their peaceful conducts.

CP Dan Malam attributed the security successes to the synergy that exists between the police and other sister agencies.

Commenting on the exercise, the member representing Oredo West Constituency at the Edo State House of Assembly Hon. Chris Okaeben, Executive Chairman, Egor local government council Hon. Eghe Ogbemudia, Enogie of Obagie N’ Evbuosa HRH Stephen Usiemwanta Imadonmwanyi and other residents of the state commended security agencies for their efforts.

They expressed satisfaction that Edo people had unrestricted access to their various polling units as witnessed during the presidential and parliamentary elections a fortnight ago.

They however adduced various reasons for the low turnout of voters recorded in the centres monitored.

Among the possible reasons were the outcome of last election and late arrival of INEC officials and election materials to some voting points.

They however lauded INEC for the remarkable improvement recorded at the house of assembly poll, yesterday.

Among the polling stations visited were Ida primary school, Iyoba College and Obagie N’Evbuosa Community in Ikpoba-Okha local government area of Edo State.
