BENIN CITY – The Edo State Police Command said it had apprehended four suspected members of Boko Haram recovering from them arms and ammunition in Auchi area of the state.
Names of the all-male suspects were given as Salihu Uzovehe, 23, Hadi Miss, 23, Tijani Haruna, 24 andMohammed Abdul Rasaq, 44 also said to be deadly and notorious gang members of kidnapping and armed robbery syndicates terrorising Kogi and Edo States axis.
This was contained in a statement endorsed by the command’s spokesman DSP Chidi Nwabuzor and made available to journalists via what’s app message in Benin City, last weekend.
“Based on credible intelligence through the DSS in conjunction with the office of the Inspector General of Police. Edo State Command was alerted by the Inspector General of Police that the above mentioned criminal elements are planning coordinated attacks against police formations in Edo State.
“The commissioner of Police Edo State Command CP Danmallam Mohammed Psc, fdc directed the tactical teams of the command to go after the criminals.
“On 19/04/2019, a robust raiding, coding and search was conducted within Auchi axis which resulted to the arrest”. The statement read in parts.
It added that an old carton Toyota Valet car with registration number AG-721-AGZ containing one pump action gun, two locally made guns, 20 live cartridges, a pair of Police Mobile Force uniform, two face masks and charms were recovered from the suspects.
The command in the statement however appealed to members of the public to be vigilant and report suspicious movement of persons to the Police.
