AUCHI- The first Edo North Senatorial Children’s Day celebration has taken place at the Ikelebe Stadium, Auchi.
Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu took the stand at the podium to kick start ceremonies with a match past by all participating students from six local governments viz: Etsako West, Etsako Central, Etsako East, Akoko-Edo, Owan East and Owan West. He later read the presidential speech for the children’s day with the theme: Drug abuse among children; addressing the menace.
Shaibu observed in the speech that children were the future, if allowed to waste in substance abuse there was bound to be an increase in violence, leading to the rise in mental issues. This brought up the need for government’s ministries, departments and agencies to incorporate programmes which allowed children to actualize their dreams and stop violence against children in their schedule of programmes.
Speaker, Children’s Parliament, Master Asen Richard in his address condemned suicide among Nigerians especially the young ones, adding that it was not an option despite the harsh economic situation in the country.
The event was spiced up with series of activities while political lesders and royal fathers from the senatorial zone were present.
