Speakership: Gbajabiamila confident of becoming the next Speaker

Abuja – Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila is confident of becoming the next speaker of House of Representatives. According to the Director-General of Hon. Gbajabiamila campaign organization,Hon.Dr. Abdulmumin Jibrin who had said that the campaign team of the lawmaker had  gotten the number needed to win the contest for Speaker of the 9th National Assembly.

Jibrin who was also the DG of the defunct Hon. Yakubu Dogara campaign organization in 2015 said that the contest for the Speaker of the House of Representatives in the upcoming 9th National Assembly has been won.

Hon. Jibrin who briefed the  newsmen on Tuesday on the outcome of consultation held with All Progressives Congress APC lawmakers in the House prior to the election,  said that the campaign organization he heads has got the required number to win the election.

He further said that the campaign team have also reached out to lawmakers from other political parties in the House and that most of them had made commitment in writing to that effect.

 “We believe that we will get some members of the PDP and other parties to support us. In reaching out to the other parties, we agreed that we will work as a team”

“We ‘ve also open consultations with all the past speakers of the House to see what ways they can help to make the 9th Assembly most successful”
“We are also lobbying him and has put up consultation him so that we can bring on board what he has to support us”.

The lawmaker alongside other newly elected lawmakers had penultimate week told reporters that the campaign organisation has 178 members who are committed to the speakership cause.

Fielding questions from newsmen on whether the campaign team had considered geo-political and religious imperatives for the quest for a speaker from South-West, the zone where the Vice-President comes from, he said that it was national cohesion, experience and pedigree of the contestants was considered by the team.

On whether the incumbent Speaker Hon.Yakubu Dogara has been supportive of the Gbajabiamila speakership project, he said that he has assured the campaign team that his doors are constantly open for consultations by the team.
