The Edo State Internal Revenue Service (EIRS) said three persons have been arrested in Benin City for assaulting members of the EIRS Tax Compliance and Enforcement Team.

The arrest was made possible by a combined efforts of the Nigerian Police and the Tax Enforcement and Compliance Team of the Edo State Internal Revenue Service who were on security patrol and monitoring exercise when a distress call was made.

A press statement issued by the EIRS said all three persons, Ikechukwu Daniel, Eloghosa Omogiade and one David who are commercial bus drivers, were arrested at the Upper Mission Extension Road following their involvement in the assault of some Officers of the Nigerian Security and Civill Defence Corp (NSCDC) and attempt to seize their fire arms as well as assaulting other members of the EIRS Tax Compliance and Enforcement Team who were on official duty, carrying out compliance check on the revenue scratch card, a new method of paying taxes by commercial transport operators in Edo State.

The EIRS said that the arrested commercial bus drivers have been handed over to the Nigerian Police Force at the State Area Command for investigation and possible arraignment in Court for prosecution.
