EKPOMA – The Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, Edo State has held its first Induction/Oath Taking ceremony for nurses produced by the University.

The event which held at the Pastor Chris Oyakhilome Auditorium of the university featured the induction of 176 qualified nurses in the first to the fouth sets of nursing students of the institution.

They were inducted into the nursing profession by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.

The vice chancellor of the university, Prof. Ignatius Onimawo described the induction as historic, as four sessions of the university’s graduated nursing students, were jointly inducted.

Prof. Onimawo congratulated the new nurses on their formal admittance into nursing profession, and charged them to be diligent in the discharge of their duties.

He equally charged them not to forget their Alma Mater, urging them to seek to give back their support and material resources for the development of the university.

The acting Head of Department of Nursing Science, AAU, Mr. Ifeanyi Nwadike expressed gratitudes to the vice chancellor of the university for his responsiveness to the needs of the department.

Nwadike congratulated the inductees, their parents and well wishers, noting that they had been inducted into a profession that is enviable world wide.

Delivering the induction lecture, titled: “Ethical Conduct, Collaboration and Advocacy Among Health workers”, a Community Health Education expert, Dr. (Lady) Christiana Ijeghede charged the new nurses to uphold the ethics of nursing profession to be successful in their career.

She challenged them never to forget their functions, which include promoting health, preserving lives, restoring health and alleviating suffering.

High point of the event was oath taking by the new nurses, that was administered by the Secretary General/Registrar, Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, Alhaji Faruk Abubakar, who was represented by Mr. Emmanuel Udontre.
