ASABA – Members of Asaba Correspondents Chapel of Nigeria Union of Journalists Delta State, on Wednesday passed no confidence veto on Comrade Michael Ikogwu led State Exco and consequently boycotted the State Council attivitives till further notice.

These decisions were take by the members of Asaba Correspendents at the emergency meeting held in Asaba after the review of the purported suspension of its members by the State Exco last week, after attending the Police assignment.

According to a Statement endorsed by the Chairman, Resolution grafting Committee, Comrades Monday Osayande, Secretary, Omo Julius Onabu and member, Utulu C Valentine, “the EXCO of Delta Council of NUJ purported suspension of some members is illegal and unconstitutional”.

The statement while condemning the actions of the State Exco, said it “leaves a sour taste in the mouth that the Council leadership embarked on a courtesy call on the same Police Command while the purported embargo was still in force;

” That the state EXCO has been carrying out Union activities largely without recourse to the NUJ Constitution;

“Collection of professional fees of correspondents chapel members without official acknowledgment receipts months after is an aberration”.

The statement, said “taking the ridiculous decision on the so-called suspension further, the NUJ Council leadership proceeded to make public via the print and electronic media the members affected without official communication to the Chapel and affected members was on call for, after all.
